The program is designed for adults or older adolescents. Children as young as 5th graders may be able to participate productively in some sessions with parental supervision. Babysitting is available for younger children. Please do not include your younger children in your count of participants. You can sign them up for babysitting below.

Workshops: Artistic and Reflective Sessions

Please select a total of three sessions in ranked order of interest - from most to least (1-3). Your three selections may come from among the artistic or reflective sessions, or both. We will place participants in a single, preferred session as space allows.

Artistic Sessions: Facilitators will guide participants in responding artistically to October 7. Works created in these sessions will be incorporated into the exhibit to be mounted at CBINT from September 29 - October 13.

A) Visual Arts: Cindy Cooper and Amy Gelfman will invite participants to represent their response through highly accessible visual art forms.

B) Visual Arts for Kids: Barbara Cannizzo, the art teacher at MJDS, will engage kids ages 7 through 12 in artistic projects appropriate to the day. Their participation assumes that they are informed, at whatever age-appropriate level their parents have established, of the tragedies of October 7. Parents who are looking for child care during the program that is independent of the Eleh Ezkerah theme should choose babysitting for their kids instead.

C) Song: Mara Kleiman will invite participants to respond vocally, in melody and song. A portion of this session will be recorded for sharing in the exhibit.

D) Written Word: Professor DeWitt Clinton will invite participants to respond in writing, either poetry or prose.

Reflective Sessions: These sessions are offered to the Milwaukee Jewish community to help us reflect on the events of this past year.

E) Torah Study: Yonina Schlussel, a local Jewish educator, will illuminate the valley and chaos of the last year with texts and teachings from Torah. This session will involve group study and reflection; it is not a lecture.

F) Israeli Poetry: Milwaukee's community Shlichah, Noa Gerassi, will share selected poems written in Israel since October 7, that give powerful voice to Israelis' hearts and experience in this most challenging time. This session will involve open discussion; it is not a lecture.

G) Movement & Dance: Shirah Apple will conduct a session inviting participants to express their grief through movement and dance. The exercise does not assume special ability in dance. The session will not be recorded.

H) Grief Circle: Dr. Sharon Fedderly will facilitate a confidential group session in which people may speak and hear one another reflect on the painful (and sometimes also inspiring) events of the last year.

Some plans for the Eleh Ezkerah workshop may yet change. We will accommodate the choices you make here to the best of our ability on September 8.
